When I was young
I used to hope that my father would never buy
a house on land in a NO EXIT street
Because to my childish eye
This meant you weren't allowed to come out
and NO EXIT meant you must STAY THERE.
And I often wondered about those poor folk
who were trapped, with no-one to care.
I felt sure that any car coming out
had broken a cardinal rule.
After all, 'The Council' had put up that sign
and sooner or later he'd call
demanding to know why they'd disobeyed
and punishing one or two.
I HATED that notice up there on the pole
It was such an unjust thing to do!

Dieter's Lament

                            it be neat if
                     I could see my feet
and I didn't have to diet all the time?
I'd like to be much thinner but my liking for my dinner
Seems to sabotage the willpower that I  muster in my mind!
